Baked beans are super easy to make on the stove top and they make the house smell cozy. Is cozy a smell?
Well, anyways, I love food that slowly cooks and gets you excited for lunch.
Your kids can practice measuring with this recipe and then let the stove do the rest of the work.
I’m not a fan of having hot dogs all the time, but there are fairly healthy ones to feed your family. I feel that the baked beans make up it!
Hot Dogs and Baked Beans
Ingredients
- 1 lb northern beans
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp dry mustard
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 2-3 TB butter
Instructions
- Soak beans overnight. Keep beans covered in water.
- Change water. Add all of the ingredients into the beans and water.
- Cook over low heat for 5 hours or until tender.
- Have kids cook hot dogs on George Foreman type grill. Either cut hot dogs into bite-sized pieces and serve with the beans or prepare hot dogs on buns.
