Income Report & More for June & July 2021

By Jill McDonough

Throughout June and July I focused on resting from my side hustles and re-evaluating all of them. Just like we look over our curriculum and see what worked and what didn’t, I think it is just as important to do that with your side hustles. That’s why I like the exercise of writing an income report.

While I did not do much work on my various side hustles, here are the side hustles I worked during the summer months.

June & July

Side Hustles That Paid Out in June & July:

Freelancing Publishing Consultant Job

My highest paying side hustle right continues to be that I work as a freelance contractor for a major college textbook publisher. Most of my assignments are in three month chunks. I already have a new assignment lined up as soon as I’m done with my current assignment in early August. I love that!

Affiliate Marketing

Once again I saw money come in from affiliate marketing from simple links I sprinkle here and there on this website and on Facebook.

My links add no additional cost to anyone but provide me with a nice steady income. My most profitable have been various links to Amazon or to Fetch Rewards.

Side Hustles That Didn’t Bring In Any Money in June or July:

My Online Newspaper Course, The Homegrown Newspaper

I didn’t have any sign ups for my online course this past month and I didn’t promote it anywhere.

I am working on some ads to generate a lot of sign ups for the beginning of the school year.

Teaching French

This side hustle did and didn’t make money this summer. That doesn’t mean this side hustle has been dormant. Au contraire! I actually have been accumulating a lot of students. I will also tutor an adult one-on-one starting this fall.

This will be such a profitable and fun side hustle this coming school year. I am VERY excited about my French I & II courses as well as tutoring. I will soon collect money from those side hustles.

And did I mention that my son is one of my students? That means that I am literally getting paid to homeschool one of my children (at least for French class). I wrote a whole article explaining how you too can get paid to teach your own children.

Well, that’s it for side hustling in June and July.

What about the other two-thirds of the homeschooling, side hustling mom life? This is why I call this my income report and more.

Homeschooling in the summer:

Organizing This Fall’s Schoolbooks – Sonlight Level D & Level G

We plan on starting our school year on August 23rd. How about you? When are you starting?

Sonlight - Homeschool Mom Side Hustles

As always with Sonlight, I’m super intimidated by the amount of books to read. However, we always seem to make our way through their great selection. I can’t wait to dive into these books with my boys.

“Summer School”

I wrote an article about why we continue to homeschool throughout the summer. We had a very relaxed summer, but my boys still did what I referenced in this article.

It definitely did not feel like homeschooling as it didn’t take much time. And thankfully, my kids don’t see reading as part of school. Thank you Sonlight summer readers!

Mom Life in June & July:

Read/Listened to in June

This summer due to a lot of social gatherings and family trips, I only read two books! In Mara, Daughter of the Nile, a former slave girl becomes a double agent with those that want to kill the female Pharoah and with those that want to protect her. It was excellent.

The other book I read was Hittite Warrior. This novel definitely helped me wrap my head around the various groups and cultures within the Old Testament. It made many Biblical characters come alive.

Mom life definitely has been a joy this summer with fun in the sun, lazy mornings, and hanging with THE best kids (in my humble opinion).

Well, that’s how my summer went. How was yours?

I want to keep encouraging you to create an “income report and more” for your side hustles. You will be encouraged by all that you accomplish. It will also push you to do more each month.
