Death by Chocolate Cake

By Jill McDonough

This is a simple “dump cake” that never disappoints. After a long day of homeschooling, this easy cake, that your kids can mix up, is a decadent way to end the day.

I once brought this cake to my future in-laws’ house for someone’s birthday. I heard, “You didn’t finish it.” (Because I didn’t put any frosting on it.) Well, this is one cake that does not need the sweetness of frosting. It is just perfect right out of the bundt pan. And by the way, after they had one bite, no one mentioned frosting ever again! I only had requests for the recipe.

However, if you wanted to add a finishing touch, I would recommend either a simple, but elegant dusting of powdered sugar or a creamy chocolate ganache. My family usually just eats (ok, devours) this cake without anything added to it. It’s melty good right out of the oven, but we actually prefer it once the chocolate chips cool and harden up.

Alright, let’s get to this delicious and easy cake. Remember, kids are VERY motivated to help make a chocolate cake. Use that to your advantage and have them measure out and mix up this cake.
