Blogging Side Hustle – Great Memories Website

By Jill McDonough

Tuula, one of our favorite homeschooling, side hustling blogging moms, has created such a great blog, Great Memories The Easy Way. I simply adore her website!

Blogging is a fun side hustle that many homeschool moms do. If done well, it is a great money maker and a wonderful creative outlet.

Tuula’s website is so much fun! She provides everything you need to create amazing parties and to make lasting memories. Let’s learn more about her journey to blogging and her site!

What’s your side hustle?

I have a blog called Great Memories the Easy Way (Party and activity ideas for making great memories). You can view it at www.mytuesdaytherapy.com.

How did you get into this particular side hustle?

My daughter wanted to start a blog. As a homeschooling mom, I, of course, looked into it. As I was reading about blogging, I thought to myself that I should start one too and I did.

Initially, I began blogging to give hope to those who suffer from adrenal fatigue by sharing my recovery story. Since every mom, no matter how exhausted, wants to make memories with her kids I also wrote about easy party and activity ideas.

Parties and making daily life fun have been my passion ever since I was a little girl. I love to plan fun stuff. Once, I was done writing about the fatigue I decided to focus on the parties and everyday fun.

I changed the name of my site to Great Memories the Easy Way but kept the url because it is meaningful to me; besides, having everyday fun and hosting parties should not make you need therapy unless it is MyTuesdayTherapy.com!

How long have you been doing this side hustle?

Since 2017.

Talk about getting started, startup costs, how long it took to start making decent money, and the time commitment.

Originally, I did not intend to monetize my site but once I started focusing on the party stuff, it took me about 6-7 months to make decent money.

You can start a blog with only a few dollars a month. However, I chose to buy a theme for my site, security, backup etc.

There are days when I work 6-8 hours and days when I work only an hour or not at all. I’d say that nowadays I average 15 hours a week.

Do your kids help you with this side hustle?

In a way… I host parties for them :). They help to prepare decorations, take photos etc.

What are the pros of this side hustle?

  • You can set your own schedule
  • There is a lot of good info out there to help you to grow your business
  • You can write about whatever you are passionate about… as long as it is something that other people are interested in.

How do you juggle homeschooling and this side hustle?

My kids are older so they are pretty independent with their school work. It’s been easy for me to work on the website while they study.

How long have you been homeschooling? What homeschool curriculum do you use?

I’ve been homeschooling for 14 years.

I like to tailor the curriculum based on each child’s interests so we have never followed any one particular curriculum.

Would you recommend this particular side hustle?

Yes.
