How did you get into this particular side hustle?
Purchasing Color Street nail polish strips started as an occasional “treat” in my own life. I am very frugal and tend to not “splurge” very often on things for myself. After trying the polish a few times by myself and with my daughter, I decided the investment in trying to make this “treat” into something more was worth it!
How long have you been doing this side hustle?
I just celebrated one year with Color Street and was excited for hitting some great achievements last month – I hit Senior Stylist, hit $20,000 in overall sales in my small team, my team leader hit Director, and our bigger team hit $20,000 in sales in just ONE month!!!
Talk about startup costs and some financial success.
Color Street’s starter kit has a value of $289 in product and business supplies, and costs $129. My additional startup cost also included purchasing envelopes, address labels, stamps, and organizational storage. I spent a bit of money purchasing inventory to have on hand as I continue to see that my customers prefer purchasing directly through me rather than the company’s website. I was just recently able to transfer my Color Street income to help pay off our new roof!
Do your kids help you with this side hustle?
My kids all love jumping in to my live videos or Color Street parties when I let them. My daughter is very much a part of this journey with me – wearing the polish, showing it off (marketing), helping me sort inventory, preparing samples to mail out, and just building memories together with me in the fun of the experience! And honestly, my boys like putting the polish on occasionally, too!
What are the pros of this side hustle?
- Having great looking nails at very minimal cost
- Creating great friendships with many other people
- Having inventory to sort through and create spreadsheets for
- Making a bit of money enjoying doing something I’ve grown to love
- Color Street nail polish is also a very reasonably priced consumable, which allows people to more easily become repeat customers.
What are the cons of this side hustle?
- Money has to be spent in order to make money. But even in this, I see the benefit of the spending as the money comes back around in sales.
How do you juggle homeschooling and this side hustle?
I remind myself that any side hustle is ultimately for my family, so it needs to coincide with what’s best for my family. My priority is making sure my kids’ needs are met and their educational experience is excellent. Color Street fits into my free time and allows me a break to refresh, which ultimately helps me be a better mom, teacher, and wife. These are just a few of my regular responsibilities, so making sure to have a good balance is definitely important!

How long have you been homeschooling? What homeschool curriculum do you use? Kids’ ages/grades?
I have been homeschooling for 11 years, since my first born was preschool aged. Throughout the years, homeschooling has looked different, depending on which of my four kids have been home or in school, if I’ve also been teaching part time, or adjusting to whatever particular needs I’ve had to meet for my kids and family.
This fall, I have a 14 year old freshman, 12 year old 7th grader, 10 year old 5th grader, and 5 year old kindergartner. Our curriculum has varied over the years, and per child, depending on their needs and interests.
Would you recommend this particular side hustle?
Yes! This experience has been able to fit in with my other responsibilities and busy schedule when I want/need it to. It has allowed me to have something just for “me”, where I am able to step away from having to be mom, wife, teacher, etc. I have built many relationships with awesome people through this experience, and I am so thankful for this past year with Color Street!
